Refinish & Paint Hardwood Stairs that were Carpeted, Stained, & Varnished (part 1) Risers, Stringers
In this video, I'm refinishing and painting a previously Stained and Carpeted Hardwood Staircase to include the Risers, Stringers, and spindles. I explain the proper preparation that is needed in order for the new primer to adhere to the previously stained and Varnished (polyurethane) surface. The Carpet had already been removed and the Stair Treads had already been professionally sanded. I then put 4 coats of A Semi-Gloss Polyurethane(Varnish) on the Treads and sanded lightly in between coats with 150 grit sandpaper. I then talk about the Scratches, Dents, and Nicks in the Stringer Boards. I then circle all the staple holes that are present from where the carpet was stapled into the Riser Board. I explain what needs to be done to these holes in order to fill in and make them smooth again. Next, I explain what the Wil-Bond Deglosser is used for and how important it is to use it to cut the sheen of the previous Varnish/Poly. I then vacuum the dust I created. My left arm is in a Short Arm Thumb Spica Cast due to a Scaphoid nonunion proximal pole fracture requiring a bone graft from left Radius bone.
